From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Shopaholic series comes a terrific blend of comedy, romance, and psychological recovery in a contemporary YA novel sure to inspire and entertain.
An anxiety disorder disrupts fourteen-year-old Audrey’s daily life. She has been making slow but steady progress with Dr. Sarah, but when Audrey meets Linus, her brother’s gaming teammate, she is energized. She connects with him. Audrey can talk through her fears with Linus in a way she’s never been able to do with anyone before. As their friendship deepens and her recovery gains momentum, a sweet romantic connection develops, one that helps not just Audrey but also her entire family.
Even though Finding Audrey is a book aimed more for the young adult market the fact that it was written by Sophie Kinsella meant I had to read it.
Unfortunately I don’t fit into the young adult criteria any more but it didn’t stop me from enjoying this book.
I will admit to start with I was a little unsure as to whether I would like this book but it wasn’t long before I was hooked into the storyline. There are quite a few funny moments, especially when it comes to Audrey’s parents. The main thing I loved about this story is that you realise how normal your family life really is with this book.
Finding Audrey for me was very much a homely, sweet and funny story. I really loved the parents and could relate so much with them. The conversations between the two of them in the book at times had me laughing out loud. I also liked the relationship that Audrey has with her brother Frank as well as Frank’s friend Linus.
The story itself focuses on Audrey who, after a horrible experience which has left her with an anxiety disorder, is trying to get her life back on track. Getting help from her therapist Dr Sarah she also finds unlikely help from her brothers friend Linus. I think due to Audrey’s circumstances the relationship between her and Frank is a lot more closer and caring than you would normally except from a brother and sister. Growing up with a brother myself I know how much we argued and fell out like any normal siblings but no matter what when it came to it we were always there for each other and this comes through in the story.
Whether your a teen or a parent or just a fan in general of this authors books you are going to love Finding Audrey.
