You, Me and Other People is the life-affirming, heartbreaking and ultimately stunning debut novel from Fionnuala Kearney.
THEY SAY EVERY FAMILY HAS SKELETONS IN THEIR CLOSET . . .
But what happens when you open the door and they won’t stop tumbling out?
For Adam and Beth the first secret wasn’t the last, it was just the beginning.
You think you can imagine the worst thing that could happen to your family, but there are some secrets that change everything.
And then the question is, how can you piece together a future when your past is being rewritten?
You, Me and Other people is the authors debut novel.
I was drawn to this book by the cover which I love and the title is certainly fitting to the storyline.
The story alternates between Adam and his wife Beth who after Adams affair have split up. Though quite humorous in parts, overall You, Me and Other People is quite a sombre read. The story follows Adam and Beth who are both in their own ways trying to come to terms with being separated. I think the author has actually done a great job in how she lets the story unfold. Though it didn’t grab out at me to start with it is a very strong and solid read.
Even though you want to dislike Adam for what he has done to Beth I couldn’t help but want to reach out to him throughout the story. Beth though the wronged one in all of this, I found to be quite a strong character which I loved. I also liked Karen, Beth’s friend as well as Ben, Adams brother. They are all really good characters whose personalities stood out to me in the story.
This is a really lovely debut novel and I will be looking forward to more by this author.
