Dying Wish (Jeff Temple) By James Raven

Book Description:

Murder, kidnap, torture—these are not words usually associated with Hampshire’s beautiful New Forest. But when local author Grant Mason has a heart attack, he makes a bizarre dying wish: he wants his loyal assistant to burn down his house. His request sets off a chain of events which leads to a police hunt for a missing couple and a deranged killer. DCI Jeff Temple and his Major Investigations Team take on their toughest case yet, and in the process they uncover dark secrets that were meant to stay buried forever. This is the fourth book in the DCI Jeff Temple series.

My Thought’s:

Dying Wish is the fourth book in the DCI Jeff Temple series. I can confidently say as not reading the previous three in the series, Dying Wish can easily be read as a stand alone. Though to be fair after reading this one I will certainly be reading the rest in the series.

The storyline in this book is quite hard hitting and I found in parts it was also quite uncomfortable to read due to the nature of the story but as uncomfortable as it maybe in parts this truly is a brilliant work of crime fiction.

Jeff Temple comes across as a well liked DCI and a genuinely nice guy. Even though he has suffered a loss in his past he seems very grounded. The relationship between him and his partner Angel is quite endearing.

The author had me hooked straight from the start so much so that I have read it in less than a day as I could not put it down. It certainly is not a book for the faint hearted.

I tried working out who was behind the disappearance of a number of people in the New Forest and had narrowed it down to a couple of people but was totally blown away by the twist that the author spectacularly throws in towards the end. It’s certainly an OMG moment.

I can’t believe I haven’t come across this authors work before now and I am certainly looking forward to the fact that there are the first three in the series which I have yet to have the pleasure of reading.

Many thanks to the author for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
