Dead Money Run is the first book in the Lou Malloy Crime Series.
Lou Malloy learns of his sister’s death right before he is released from prison, having served 15 years for the theft of $15 million from an Indian casino. He wants two things: to keep the $15 million, which no one has been able to find, and to track down and punish whoever killed his sister.
Lou Malloy teams up with Hilary Kelly, a private investigator. In no time, Lou has found the hidden $15 million, recovered guns and ammunition hidden with the money, and murdered two low-level mobsters and fed them to the crocodiles.
As the body count rises, the story grows more complex and his sister’s death becomes more mysterious.
Lou Malloy is in prison for stealing 15 million dollars. As you can imagine as the money has never been recovered, he is quite a popular guy but obviously all for the wrong reasons. Just before his release he is informed of his sister Susan’s untimely death.
As soon as Lou is released we are taken on quite a fast paced ride. Not only is Lou hell bent on finding out why his sister was so brutally murdered and wanting to find out who is behind her murder, he also has quite a few un savoury characters hot on his heels after the elusive 15 million dollars!
There is quite a lot of action in this book and some parts made for uncomfortable reading but that is to be expected in a crime thriller.
Lou is quite a tough character but then spending 15 years in prison will probably do that to a guy. I think due to the storyline he has had to let his head rule and not his heart. Hilary the private investigator is also a strong character. She seems to take everything in her stride and adjusts to new events with Lou quite quickly.
I really had no idea how things were going to pan out at the end for Lou but I certainly was not disappointed and I am very interested to see what the author has in store for an ex con in future books.
Many thanks to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have awarded this book 4/5 stars.
