The Good Girl By Mary Kubica

Book Description:

“I’ve been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she works. I don’t know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she’s scared. But I will.”

One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn’t show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life.

When Colin decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota instead of delivering her to his employers, Mia’s mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them. But no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family’s world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a propulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

My Thoughts:

I have heard so many good things about this authors books and I have had this one sat on my kindle for quite a while so thought it was about time I got round to reading it.

It is a well written novel but I have to admit for some reason it did not really grip me. I don’t know if I was just not in the mood for this sort of genre or that apart from the very ending, none of the story really thrilled me.

The story flicks between before Mia went missing and to after Mia was found. It flicks between four main characters, though mainly between Eva, Mia’s mother, Colin the man who has abducted Mia and Gabe the detective working on the case.

It is quite a dark story with short chapters. I can’t say that I really felt for any of the characters in this story, none of them really jumped out at me and I don’t know if this is part of why the story didn’t really grip me. It is still a good read though and the ending certainly makes the novel worth reading but for me unfortunately not one of the best thriller’s I have read this year.

I have awarded this book 3.5/5 stars.
