Claymore Straker is a fugitive with a price on his head. Wanted by the CIA for acts of terrorism he did not commit, his best friend has just been murdered and Rania, the woman he loves, has disappeared. As his pursuers close in, Clay follows Rania to Istanbul and then Cyprus, where he is drawn into a violent struggle between the Russian mafia, Greek Cypriot extremists, and Turkish developers cashing in on the tourism boom. As the island of love descends into chaos, and the horrific truth is unveiled, Clay must call on every ounce of skill to save Rania and end unimaginable destruction being wrought in the name of profit.
The Evolution of Fear is the second novel in the Claymore Straker series. I haven’t actually read the first book in the series which is called The Abrupt Physics of Dying but certainly would like to after reading the second book.
In my own opinion I found it quite easy to read this book as a stand alone though do think it would probably be beneficial for most readers to have read the other one first.
Due to the story line I found The Evolution of Fear quite fast paced. It felt very much like a game of cat and mouse which has the reader cheering on for the good guys.
Clay (Claymore) is desperate to find Rania and ends up in some lovely places. Unfortunately he doesn’t have any time to enjoy the wonderful sites of where he is as he is caught up in finding Rania as well as trying to keep under the radar from some very unsavoury people indeed.
Towards the end, the story really starts to pick up pace. I was literally on the edge of my seat and was scared to carry on reading as by that time there were a few characters that I was drawn to and I wanted everyone of them to get out of it alive. Of course you will have to read it yourself to find that out.
The Evolution of Fear is an edge of your seat thriller that comes at you fast and hard.
