‘Kate Gilby’ turns up dressed in rags in a local hospital.
She disappeared four years ago with her daughter Sophie. There was an extensive nation-wide search, however, they appeared to be missing without trace.
‘Kate’ claims that she did not know about her daughters kidnap, and that she was drugged, fed and sexually abused in the basement of a local house. She does not realise how much time has passed.
However, the house does not appear to exist, and this ‘Kate’ is over twenty stone in weight with short blonde hair, whereas the Kate who disappeared was slim and dark. Is she really Kate Gilby? There is no-one to identify her.
DS Angela McCarthy has been put in charge of the case to prove her ability for promotion. However, she is stumped, and asks her friend, Resa James the criminal psychologist who is a police consultant, to help. Although Resa has her own problems to contend with, she agrees to Angela’s request.
The case is not as simple as it seems, it opens a large can of worms with International repercussions and the involvement of the FBI.
What are the deep secrets which are about to be revealed?
Will the team survive this dangerous assignment?
Gone And Forgotten is the fifth book in the Resa James series and quite different to the others. Resa is heavily pregnant and about to give birth at any time, so even though she does feature in the story she isn’t quite as prominent as she normally is.
I really loved the whole plot in this book. What happens to Kate is really quite horrific and some of what her abductor does to her is not quite something that you would read about in many crime novels, so it made it quite unique as well as something you wouldn’t forget about in a hurry.
Even though Resa is due to give birth, her good friend DS Angela McCarthy is desperate for her help in finding out if Kate is telling the truth as well as who could be behind the woman’s abduction.
You can’t help but find your heart going out to Kate who was taken away from her whole life. In the time that she has disappeared her mother has died and she has no one close left who she can turn to and is very much alone in the world.
I was totally baffled as to who was behind it all, especially as anyone that could have information towards what happened to Kate, start to turn up dead.
Gone And Forgotten is a gripping novel that had me literally on the edge of my seat whilst reading the second half of the book. The whole story is quite a steady read but then really starts to picks up pace and I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough to see how it was all going to end. A highly enjoyable read.
My thanks to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Goodreads rating 4/5 stars.
