Watching Edie by Camilla Way

Book Description:

Edie is the friend that Heather has always craved. But one night, it goes terrifyingly wrong. And what started as an innocent friendship ends in two lives being destroyed.

Sixteen years later, Edie is still rebuilding her life. But Heather isn’t ready to let her forget so easily. It’s no coincidence that she shows up when Edie needs her most.

Edie or Heather?
Heather or Edie?

Someone has to pay for what happened, but who will it be?

‘WATCHING EDIE has a clever plot, a fateful friendship, a callous betrayal, and an ending that is as twisty as it is inevitable’
–ALEXANDRA BURT, international bestselling author of LITTLE GIRL GONE

My Thoughts:

I won a copy of this book over on Bookaholic Confessions book blog, so many thanks to Holly and the publisher.

Watching Edie is told to us in alternating before and after chapters. The before chapters are told by Heather who is very much a loner. When Edie starts at the same school and takes an interest in Heather, Heather puts all her time and attention into their friendship and will literally do anything for her friend. In a way I did feel quite sorry for Heather in the before chapters as she is like a little puppy who only wants to be loved and until Edie, no one has ever really wanted anything to do with her.

In the present we get to know more about both women through Heather. Whatever happened in the girls past has really had an affect on Heather in present day as she is a shadow of the girl she used to be. It just made me even more intrigued as to what could have gone on.

The author cleverly does not give too much away and ups the suspense and mystery though out the story. I literally had all sorts going on through my mind as to what could have happened between the once friends, I was way off the mark with all of them.

Watching Edie is a truly gripping story that will send the readers mind into turmoil. I know now why people say ‘the suspense is killing me’ as it literally did. I was wanting to rush through the pages to find out yet I also wanted to savour them as I didn’t know if I was prepared for the truth. I have to say when the truth does come out it very much left me with conflicting emotions. A truly gripping psychological thriller.

Goodreads rating 4/5 stars.

Watching Edie is available to purchase from Amazon.
