It’s December 1992, and children are going crazy for the Tracy Island toy – almost as crazy as the parents! Christmas day is fast approaching and Coco is desperately trying to track one down for her four-year-old son Rosencrantz.
Throw into the mix a horrible boss, a lazy husband, and the prospect of her in-laws arriving for the festivities, and Coco wishes she could cancel Christmas and sail off to a desert island somewhere – preferably with the gorgeous-yet-unattainable Tom from work.
But retail therapy is at hand! Coco’s faithful friends Chris and Marika rally round, and even her mother-in-law Ethel tries to help in her own eccentric way.
From dodgy dealings in a motorway lay-by, to extreme shopping in Hamley’s with a Sylvanian Families fanatic, to having a go at the Blue Peter make-your-own Tracy Island, Coco tries everything in the hope that Rosencrantz will open his must-have toy on Christmas morning.
Coco Pinchard’s Must-Have Toy Story is a hilarious feel-good comedy, which asks the question – how far would you go to get your child this year’s must-have Christmas toy?
If you are new to the best selling Coco Pinchard series, fear not, Coco Pinchard’s Must-Have Toy Story can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone Christmas treat – and it has zero calories!
I am a huge Coco Pinchard fan and have read the whole series. If you haven’t read them then all I can say is that you are really missing out. Fear not if you haven’t read the others as even though this is the fifth book in the series it easily reads as a stand alone, just be prepared that once read, you will be racing off to buy the rest as they really are that good.
What a brilliant story line. As a parent you will totally be able to relate to Coco in this novella. Every year there is a new must have toy that all the children seem to go mad over. As a parent at Christmas time, we are under some major pressure to full fill our little cherubs Santa list.
Poor Coco no matter how many times she is within reach of full filling her sons wish, it is snatched away from her. The pressure is really piling up and not only does she have the toy to worry about she also has Christmas to arrange in readiness for her family and friends coming round.
The star as always in these books is Ethel the mother in law. She will have you howling with laughter. I love Coco but Ethel never fails to put a huge grin on my face. The author certainly knows how to create much loved characters that us readers can not get enough of.
Coco Pinchard’s Must-Have Toy Story is a brilliantly funny festive read. It takes a humorous look at the pressures of shopping and family that Christmas always seems to bestow on us. If you want a realistic laugh out loud read with the most wonderful characters, then this an absolute must read.
Goodreads rating 5/5 stars.
