13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough

Book Description:

I was dead for 13 minutes.

I don’t remember how I ended up in the icy water but I do know this – it wasn’t an accident and I wasn’t suicidal.

They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you’re a teenage girl, it’s hard to tell them apart. My friends love me, I’m sure of it. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t try to kill me. Does it?

13 MINUTES by Sarah Pinborough is a gripping psychological thriller about people, fears, manuiplation and the power of the truth. A stunning read, it questions our relationships – and what we really know about the people closest to us . . .

My Thoughts:

13 Minutes is a book that can be enjoyed by young adults and adults alike.

Natasha spends 13 minutes in the water before being rescued by a dog walker. Even when she wakes up, she can’t remember events that led her to be there.

Becca is the main character in this novel. Her and Natasha used to be best friends but have drifted apart but begin to get close again after Natasha’s near death experience. I have to admit that the story line brings back memories of being back at school. Natasha, Jenny and Hayley are the popular kids that everyone wants to hang out with or be friends with. Becca is kind of in the middle, once being part of the in crowd but has now stepped down the ladder and is friends with Hannah who is part of the unpopular crowd. Sadly there is always the popularity ladder thing going on in every school and at times it makes for a distressing read.

Hannah is one character that I really related to as she reminded me a lot of myself. I wanted to give Becca a slap at times for not realising what a good friend she had in Hannah, though Becca does realise this for herself sadly.

13 minutes is a very dark read. With so many twists and turns I didn’t know who to trust or believe. The author skilfully plays with the readers minds making this a seriously gripping read. Yet another fabulous read by an author whose books are becoming absolute must reads.

Goodreads 5/5 stars.

13 Minutes is available to purchase from Amazon.
