Book Description:

The lives of Roberta, Peter and Phyllis are shattered when their father leaves with two strangers. When they and their mother move to a country cottage, they soon come to love the railway that runs nearby.

There follows a series of many adventures, including saving a train from disaster, and then finally helping the Old Gentleman try to solve the mystery of their father’s disappearance.

One of the most famous stories of all time, enjoyed by millions of children and adults across the world.

My Thoughts:

I was absolutely delighted to be able to get the opportunity to re read The Railway Children. There are so many books from my childhood that I have very fond memories of so was very interested to see what I would think reading this book now as an adult.

If possible I think I loved this book even more. This really is such a timeless classic that generations of people can read and enjoy.

Reading The Railway Children transported me back to my childhood. It raised so many emotions in me. Even though I’ve read the book before and obviously knew what happens, it didn’t spoil my enjoyment whatsoever, if anything it felt like coming back home to family reading it.

If you haven’t ever had the opportunity to read this book then I highly recommend it. Even if you have read it, believe me, I think you will enjoy it even more reading it second time round.

The Railway Children is available to purchase from Amazon.

Book Description:

Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on the wild Dartmouth Moors with the footprints of a giant hound nearby and the murder is blamed on a family curse. It is left to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson to solve the mystery of the legend of the supernatural and gruesome hound before Sir Charles’s heir comes to similarly painful end.

My Thoughts:

It’s a lot of years since I read this book and was looking forward to getting reacquainted with Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson again.

Out of all of the Sherlock Holmes books The Hound of the Baskervilles was one of my firm favourites. I just loved the whole mystery and suspense surrounding the case and the setting couldn’t be anymore perfect.

I have to admit re reading the book, even though still a very well written story, because crime books are one of my favourite genres now it didn’t quite tick the boxes for what I expect from my crime reads these days. If anything it just goes to show how your tastes can change over the years. Saying that, Holmes and Watson will always be the stand out duo that many authors aspire to.

Goodreads rating 3/5 stars.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles is available to purchase from Amazon.

  1. I haven’t read The Railway Children (yet) but The Hound of The Baskervilles was one of my early reads in my teens and left a good impression then. I don’t know how I’d feel if I’d reread it now really.. I’m not sure I want to find out and tarnish my happy memory 🙂
