Lydia knows first-hand that ‘having it all’ isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. As far as she’s concerned, when it comes to job versus family, it’s a case of one or the other. And whilst most women her age have spent years climbing the corporate ladder, she’s made a career out of bagging her perfect man. Now nearly thirty and still single, Lydia wonders if she’d made the right choice.
Realising the time has come to take stock, she goes against her family’s wishes and goes travelling in the hope of finding a new direction. At least that’s the plan.
So when Sam comes along, she decides to tell a little white lie, re-inventing herself as a professional chef – not exactly the best new identity for a woman who can’t cook. But the truth can’t stay hidden for long and when her family show up unexpectedly things go from bad to worse…
Can Lydia find love? Will she ever learn to cook?
Little White Lies and Butterflies is a heart-warming comedy about finding your place in the world.
The Trouble With Words by this author is one of my top reads of 2017 so couldn’t wait to read her next novel.
Who couldn’t love the fantastic setting for the story line? Nice hot country with beautiful scenery and though Lydia isn’t particularly happy staying in an apartment above a bar, she is very much based with the locals.
Lydia even though getting away from everything, I thought was very brave to go to a strange country all on her own. She has a bit of a barrier up around her and is without a doubt quite stubborn. She did wind me up slightly as she is quite critical of people with appearances, Sam especially. She certainly doesn’t help herself but there is something about her that you can’t help but like and I think in a way she probably reminds us all of ourselves to a certain extent.
Luckily for Lydia, Sam can see through the frosty exterior and is determined to befriend Lydia much to her frustration. Sam is so lovely and definitely makes a great love interest, though I have to admit to feeling a bit like a cougar myself with the descriptions of the gorgeous Yiannis.
Little White Lies and Butterflies is the perfect read for anytime of the year. It is an easy read filled with fun and romance that readers will devour. Another great read from the author.
My thanks to Bombshell Books for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Goodreads rating 4/5 stars.
