Today, myself and the lovely Claire Knight, attended the Inside The Mind Of A Crime Writer event at Morley town hall in Leeds, West Yorkshire. I’m sure, like me, most of us are fascinated with what goes on in a writers mind and this was the perfect event to find out!
The event was on the lower floor in the Morleian Hall. The room was a good size and perfectly laid out. After having a brief chat with the authors we took a seat and waited for the talk to start.
Malcolm Hollingdrake did a wonderful job hosting the event and introducing each author. He put everyone at ease and won over the audience straight away.
Each author in turn took to the stand where they told us more about themselves, their books and their journey to being published. I have to say I found it fascinating listening to their stories and why they write in the crime and psychological thriller genres. After each author had spoke they each did a quick Q&A for the audience to ask questions. When the talk had finished, the authors then returned to where their books had been displayed to sign and chat to everyone.
Obviously being a huge crime and psychological thriller fan, I couldn’t walk away empty handed and made my purchases whilst chatting with the authors.
As a book lover I really recommend readers going to these events as you really find out so much more about the authors themselves as well as their books. Even though some of the authors were fairly local, some had some traveling to do and have to say I really appreciated their time and effort into the organising and attending these sort of events. I have to say a special thank you to Caroline Maston who is one of the members that runs the Uk Crime Book Club on Facebook who had a big hand in helping organising the event also. A big thank you also obviously goes to the authors themselves, Liz Mistry, Anita Waller, Malcolm Hollingdrake and A.A Dhand.
Make sure to keep up to date with local events in your areas as well as following your favourite authors on their Facebook author pages and Twitter so you never miss out on any upcoming events. Even if you are attending on your own, you will always be made to feel welcome and your support to the authors will always be hugely appreciated.
