Book Description:

It was the happiest day of her life. Little did she know it was also the last.

When a woman’s body is found in the grounds of a ruined priory, Detective Imogen Evans realises she is dealing with a serial killer—a killer whose victims appear to die in a state of bliss, eyes open, smiles forever frozen on their faces.

A few miles away, single dad Ben Hofland believes his fortunes are changing at last. Forced to move back to the sleepy village where he grew up following the breakdown of his marriage, Ben finally finds work. What’s more, the bullies who have been terrorising his son, Ollie, disappear. For the first time in months, Ben feels lucky.

But he is unaware that someone is watching him and Ollie. Someone who wants nothing but happiness for Ben.

Happiness…and death.

The Lucky Ones is the terrifying new thriller from the #1 Kindle bestselling author of Follow You Home and The Devil’s Work.

My Thoughts:

Ben finds himself having to re start over again after his marriage fails. He returns home to the small village he grew up in hoping for a new beginning for him and his son Ollie. Sadly things don’t go quite to plan with his son having problems at school and having the neighbours from hell living next door.

Imogen is a detective with a very good record. She has a knack for solving cases so any criminals should be worried, very worried. Her work is very much her life and she is determined to bring down the killer.

From the beginning of the story I was well and truly hooked. I was desperate to know why some one would kill a person who literally had a new lease of life. There was so many why moments in this book that left me desperate to know who was behind it all. The village is lucky that they have Imogen on the case as no way would I have ever worked any of it out if it hadn’t been spelled out in front of me.

The Lucky Ones is a compelling read that grabbed me right from the off and held me there right up until the very end. So many times I thought I had worked out who it was only to change my mind and choose someone else. I even went back to the same person a couple of times sure that it had to be them only to be embarrassed at how wrong I had it! It’s one that will certainly mess with your head and a definite read for fans of psychological thrillers.

Goodreads rating 4/5 stars.

  1. Sounds very interesting! I’m a sucker for sadistic twists such as “smiles forever frozen on their faces”. I also like it when I feel a bit toyed with/manipulated in terms of thinking I’ve guessed the killer and then second-guessing myself.
