A family secret
One shocking argument and ten-year-old Alice Parker’s world was turned upside down. Her peaceful life at Honeysuckle Farm in the quiet rural village of Brook Bridge swapped for the bustling metropolis of New York City. Alice’s life was changed forever…
A second chance
Now, thirteen years later, Alice’s American dream is over. With her life in tatters, there is only one place Alice wants to be… home at Honeysuckle Farm. So, when Alice learns her beloved Grandie is ill, she knows this is her last chance to heal the family rift.
A forever home?
But secrets still swirl in Brook Bridge, and Alice is no closer to discovering the truth. And for some reason her new friendship with local heartthrob Sam Reid seems to be making the locals tense.
Sick of the lies Alice knows it’s time to lay the past to rest once and for all. But could the truth ruin her hopes of ever calling Honeysuckle Farm home again?
Christie Barlow transports us into the wonderful and idyllic world of Brook Bridge. A small knit community of which you can easily visualise the country box houses and the quaint shops. It sounded heavenly and along with Honeysuckle Farm itself, I was ready to pack up and move there myself.
Alice is a wonderful protagonist. She is young, sensible, hard working but sadly struggling to follow her dreams. Going back to her childhood home gives her a much welcome break from the disappointment of New York. Reuniting with her childhood best friend and a new love interest to boot, why would you ever want to leave?
Grandie is a wonderful character. Even though weak from being ill, there is no mistaking the strong and loving aura that surrounds him. I was as desperate as Alice in finding out what had made her mum and Grandie fall out all those years before. I could never imagine not talking to a loved one for so long and couldn’t envision what could be that bad to stop them from talking and have a mother take her young daughter miles away from home. When we find out, WOAH! I did not see that coming! I think my jaw may have dropped and stayed there for quite a while until I remembered to fix it back into place.
A Home At Honeysuckle Farm is a comforting and breath taking read. When reading it you feel like you are in a warm and cosy bubble that you never want to leave. It radiates goodness of which you can’t help but fall in love with it all. A truly wonderful and fabulous story by one of my favourite go to authors who never lets me down.
