Book Description:
On a remote Highland mountain, the body of Elaine Buxton is burning. All that will be left to identify the respected lawyer are her teeth and a fragment of clothing.
In the concealed back room of a house in Edinburgh, the real Elaine Buxton screams into the darkness…
Detective Inspector Luc Callanach has barely set foot in his new office when Elaine’s missing persons case is escalated to a murder investigation. Having left behind a promising career at Interpol, he’s eager to prove himself to his new team. But Edinburgh, he discovers, is a long way from Lyon, and Elaine’s killer has covered his tracks with meticulous care.
It’s not long before another successful woman is abducted from her doorstep, and Callanach finds himself in a race against the clock. Or so he believes … The real fate of the women will prove more twisted than he could have ever imagined.
My Thoughts:
This is the first book in the DI Callanach series and what a great start it is too.
Callanach is an easy character to take to. Even though he is yet another DI with issues, in this case he has every right to have them. I won’t say too much about it but I think this is sadly a side we don’t see so much of in the press and it can have a damaging affect on the person involved.
Ava, his colleague, is another likeable character that makes for a great crime fighting duo. Sometimes it can take a while to warm to certain characters, especially in a detective series as the case tends to take over but these two have a certain work chemistry that really appealed to me and had me keep turning those pages.
There are plenty of pretty gruesome parts in this book. The killer is a seriously sick and twisted one and what he does to his victims had me hiding my face behind my hands. Obviously I had to keep peaking through my fingers to try and comprehend the atrocities of what they were carrying out. Probably not for the faint hearted but boy does it make for a gripping read.
Perfect Remains is a dark and deliciously twisted start to what looks set to be an exciting detective series. Readers who love a really messed up and sick killer are going to love it and I for one can’t wait to read more.
Perfect Remains is available to purchase from Amazon. (Please note that link used is an affiliate link).
I thought this book was brilliant but haven’t got around to reading the next ones yet.
