Book Description:

Your sister or her baby. Who do you choose?

A moving page-turner with a heart-pounding dilemma. Fans of Jodi Picoult and Jojo Moyes will love Kelly Rimmer.

As children, Lexie and Annie were incredibly close. Bonded by the death of their beloved father, they weathered the storms of life together. When Lexie leaves home to follow her dream, Annie is forced to turn to her leatherbound journal as the only place she can confide her deepest secrets and fears…

As adults, sisters Lexie and Annie could not be more different. Lexie is a successful doctor and happily engaged. Annie is an addict – a thief, a liar and unable to remain clean. When Annie’s newborn baby is in danger of being placed in foster care, Annie picks up the phone to beg her sister for help. Will Lexie agree to take in her young niece? And how will Annie survive, losing the only thing in her life worth living for?

My Thoughts:

I usually write my reviews straight after finishing a book but I was an emotional wreck after reading this book. It has to be one of the most powerful and emotional books I’ve ever read.

The story flicks between sisters Lexi and Annie. Annie’s chapters are through writings in her journal. They are very raw and we get to follow her journey into self destruction. Lexi’s chapters are in the present. Gosh I’m even getting all emotional just remembering parts of the story. That’s how much it has affected me. I had so much empathy for Lexi, she has basically been a mother to Annie and has tried so many times to help her sister.

The story is very much about the bond between two sisters. It also tackles drug addiction. It was so hard reading of Annie as she tries to overcome her addiction so she can be the best mum in the world to her daughter Daisy. It was also hard to see it from Lexi’s point of view. I was desperate to see how things we’re going to end but at the same time I really didn’t want to know. I knew either way it was going to be a very emotional journey and I wasn’t wrong.

Before I Let You Go is a hard hitting and heart wrenching read. Even writing this review has had me in tears as I want to do Lexi’s and Annie’s story justice. If you only read one book this year, then this should be it. Such a beautiful yet heart breaking story where the characters have placed themselves firmly in my heart.

My thanks to BookBridgr and Headline Reviews for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
