Book Description:
The President is Missing. The world is in shock.
But the reason he’s missing is much worse than anyone can imagine.
With details only a President could know, and the kind of suspense only James Patterson can deliver.
My Thoughts:
I used to be a big fan of James Patterson and used to literally devour every book as soon as it came out. As usual, life gets in the way and for some reason I stopped reading his books. As soon as I heard that he had teamed up with a former president though, I knew I had to get myself a copy and read it.
I’m not sure if I was hoping for some sort of sneak peak into the life of a president but have to say I don’t feel like I know anymore than I did before reading this novel. Yes we get a glimpse of what life is like with the pressures that come with that sort of role but I guess I was hoping for a little bit more.
I would probably class this as a political thriller. Not a genre that I would typically go for but come on, James Patterson and Bill Clinton wrote it, or did they? I notice that there is also a ghost writer which makes me think how much input James and Bill actually had.
Now, you’re probably thinking did she even enjoy this novel as it isn’t sounding like she did. Well overall yes, I suppose I did. It was just slightly under whelming than the authors other books. In fact a lot so. The trade mark short chapters are there and it is packed full of tension, suspense and action so it does have that going for it. There are a fair few characters to try and keep track of which I don’t think really helped but I liked the president’s character and you do route for him hoping that he will save the day.
The President Is Missing, whilst far from being one of my favourites by the author, is still a solid read with tension leaping from every page. I could easily see it being turned into a block buster film. It didn’t quite reach my expectations but I have no doubts that the authors devoted fans will probably love it.
The President Is Missing is available to purchase from Amazon. (Please note that link used is an affiliate link).
I too didn’t want to read this Sarah as not my cuppa tea.. Though I like James Patterson if he writes alone, in league with other writers, not too keen. Tried reading his other shot books, forgotten what they are really called, short books with other writers, I was not pulled into the story. Unless I get a hearty recommendation I am staying a bit away from combos

I think he realized his limits hence started his writing master class and his associations with other authors. Last I heard, he edited and proofread some novel.
I am so done… 😂 😂

This is not the first time I’ve seen readers disappointed by books with James Paterson associated with them. To me it seems he’s stretched himself too far, his name markets books which no longer represent the writing that he won his original fans with.

Totally agree. It’s his name that sells the books but doubt he actually has very little to do with the books and you can tell. x

I used to read a lot of James Patterson and I do still pick up his books sometimes but I think when any author writes the volume of books that he does it’s difficult for them not to feel formulaic.

Yes, alot of the ones i used to read were with other writers and i did enjoy them but after not reading them for so many years, the last few i have picked up i just haven’t loved. Could be my reading tastes have changed x

I turned this one down and now, of course, following your review, I want to read it to see if I agree!

Ive been wanting to read it since i saw it in the shops, sadly for me it just didn’t live up to my expectations. It seems to have a lot of mixed reviews, would definitely be interested in seeing what you think x

I read this over the Summer on hols. Perfect for the sunbed….it is what it is… I wasn’t expecting anymore from it. It did the job for me when I was looking for something less taxing if that makes sense! Enjoyable.

Yes his books are definite beach reads, only problem is i used to fly through them on holiday and run out of books lol. Usually with his books i would finish them within a few hours as was so gripped. This took me 4 days to read, just didn’t enjoy it as much as I have his others. x

I have this on my shelf and it’s definitely going to be read in 2019! I also bought into this book as soon as I saw Bill Clinton attached to it…..keen to read it even more now based on a lot of the reviews.
Disappointed to see there’s ANOTHER ghostwriter attached to this 😦

Yes, only noticed it on Goodreads as they have the ghost writer listed in there. Will be interested to see what you think. X

I used to work for James Patterson’s publishing company and noticed that he literally released a new book every month, I think they often had his name on so people would recognise his ‘brand’ but a lot of the story would be written by the other person (I mean he wouldn’t have the time to write so many himself). In the case of the book you reviewed, it does sound like the 2 authors’ names were used to ‘sell’ the book and maybe it was hyped too much 🙂

Oh wow! Bet that was a fab job working for such a big publisher. I used to love his earlier books he did which even then they were supposed to be co written but this didn’t have the same feel to those. X

I read some of his earlier books, however I don’t think I’d enjoy them now. But his books are consistently in the bestseller charts so I’m glad that lots of people are enjoying his writing even if it’s someone else’s 🙂
