My story begins aged 3, when my mother abandoned me and left me with my brutal father to raise me. Nobody knew the secrets that went on inside that house, or the journey that I travelled on after leaving it, until now. This is the story of my survival.
What do you do when no one wants you?
How many people need to destroy a child until that child wants to destroy herself?
What if social services always got told a different story?
What would you do if you were in my position?
Survival is key.
What Nobody Knew is the authors own story. It starts off when she is three and her birth mother abandoning her and her going to live with her father and her stepmother. Sadly for the author, what should be a loving home environment, is anything but.
This is a story that will have you going through an array of emotions. The adults in it made me so angry. Her dad is a brutal drunk who takes it out on his own child as well as his wife. I wish I could say I felt sorry for the stepmother as she has to deal with abuse also but I didn’t. Her lack of love and concern for her step child left me appalled.
Obviously this sort of story is never going to be an easy one and in parts, it really wasn’t. I do however take my hat off to the author in finding her voice and sharing her own experience in the hope it might make others speak up also or at least to know they are not on their own.
What Nobody Knew is at times a heart breaking and emotional journey of a child who we follow into adult hood. What was interesting was seeing some of the official documents that were created due to social services concerns as well as the school. There is also an interview with the police and the father which I don’t think I’ve ever come across before in those sort of book so really made for some interesting reading. It’s hard to say that you enjoy this sort of book as the reading matter is so harrowing but it is a raw and inspiring account and definitely gets all the stars from me.
My thanks to the author for a readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

Amelia is a mum and a survivor. She wrote her book What Nobody Knew to help other people who have been through similar experiences and to educate people who are unaware of what goes on behind closed doors. She has no previous writing experience, she’s just one person who wants to change the world for the better. She also loves cats and reading In her spare time.

I’m reading this now and, 10% in, I’m already angry at what that poor child is going through.
I know, you cant help but feel outraged at the behaviour of the adults and the way they treat her. x
