Book Description:
Set in Northamptonshire, England… Henry, a talking Jack Russell, is part of a small team researching a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. He is the target of several dognappers but can he use his wit or guile to outwit them and, with the help of forty-year-old laboratory assistant Gwynne Davies, find the proof needed to convict the criminals. Thus begins a series of adventures for the unlikely pair. There have been amateur sleuths, there have been talking animals – Henry is both. This is Family Guy’s Brian meets Poirot meets My Fair Lady.
Tagline: Henry, a nineteen-month-old Jack Russell, has been given the ability to talk and now they can’t shut him up! Family Guy’s Brian with just as much attitude but better sleuthing skills.
USP: There have been amateur sleuths, there have been talking animals – Henry is both.
‘Oh, Henry’ may look like a young adult or children’s novel but the main human character is a woman in her early forties so a more general appeal. ‘For the young in all of us’.
My Thoughts:
Oh, Henry is the first book and great start to the Henry Houdini Do Detective Series.
We first meet Henry when he is living in a cage in a lab. Even though he is well looked after, being fed, watered and walked, I did feel sorry for him being cooped up inside the majority of the time. Gwynne who looks after him, as well as making observations, does a good job in taking care of him and you can see a certain bond growing between the two as they spend so much time together.
Henry is obviously not like other dogs in the fact that he can talk. It really humanises him and I couldn’t help falling a bit in love with this adorable Jack Russell.
When Henry gets kidnapped, the adventures begin and we get to meet a whole array of characters, some nice, some not so nice. One stand out character is Sally. Her love of animals really shines through.
Oh, Henry is a charming, fun and engaging read. There is so much potential for where this series could go and I have no doubts that Henry is going to win himself a lot of fans. A quirky and humorous read for readers who are looking for light hearted mystery novel.
Oh, Henry is available to purchase from Amazon. (Please note that link used is an affiliate link).
This sounds cute. I used to have a Jack Russell that I loved so much, this definitely intrigues me.
