A Vicarage Reunion by Kate Hewitt @katehewitt1

Book Description:

Welcome to Thornthwaite, a quaint village tucked up in England’s beautiful but rainy Lake District, where homecomings and surprises await the four Holley sisters…

Esther Holley, the eldest in the family, has always had her life firmly in control until a miscarriage knocks her off course. Two months later, still emotionally spinning, she separates from her husband Will, a sheep farmer and man of few words and moves back in with her parents.

Life as a singleton thirtysomething living in her parents’ house is miserable, but Esther is determined to re-boot her life, including going on a few unfortunate dates. She’s shocked when tight-lipped Will shows up on her doorstep determined to woo her back. They’ve been married for seven years, but Will wants to return to the beginning, dating and getting to know each other again.

New challenges face them as they start over–and new chances too. Can Esther and Will save their marriage, especially when faced with the hardest decision of all?

My Thoughts:

This is the second book in the Holley Sisters of Thornthwaite series. Each book focuses on one sister so if you haven’t read the previous novel, this does read as a stand alone.

Anna is the sister who features in the first book in the series, of which we do briefly catch up with her in this one. I would have liked to have seen that little bit more of her but I enjoyed getting to know Esther, the eldest sister better.

On the outside, each sister seems to be happy with their lives, but when you dig that little bit deeper, each one is fighting their own issues. For Esther and Will, they are struggling with a miscarriage which has left Esther questioning everything about her life.

For me this story is about someone finding themselves again. It’s a reminder at how get get ourselves into a strut, going through the same motions everyday. Esther is very much a bit of a cold fish but I really warmed to her and she is another sister that felt like a good friend by the end of the book.

A Vicarage Reunion is a light read with a deeper meaning. True to it’s genre, it is set in an idyllic location with a wonderful cast of characters. Each sister has you wanting to know more about them. I love Ruth, the mothers character and feel like there maybe more to come from her. I hope so anyway. An endearing read.
