Book Description:

You’re a survivor, aren’t you, Matilda? But what’s the point in surviving when everyone around you is dead?

When DCI Matilda Darke receives a mysterious telephone call, she immediately dismisses the threat. Afterall the Homicide and Major Enquiries team are a regular target for prank calls.

But ignoring this warning might soon be the biggest regret of Matilda Darke’s life.

A lone gunman is on a deadly rampage around Sheffield, leaving a bloody trail in his wake. Taking his shots with a sickening precision, he’s about to leave his mark on the world and change Matilda and her team’s lives forever.

My Thoughts:

I’m not sure what exactly I expected from this book when I read the blurb. Either way my mind has been totally blown. I honestly don’t think anything could have prepared me for what I was about to read.

The story starts off with a bang and I settled in comfortably expecting Matilda and her team to get a call and to start their investigation. I think I’m still in shock from what happened after that. This is so hard as there is so much I want to write about but it would all be major spoilers. All I can say is that I didn’t expect the carnage that happens from that point onwards.

The death count in this book is high. It made for some highly emotional reading as well as uncomfortable. The fear and emotions that the characters were experiencing, leapt off the pages and washed all over me. I found myself reading quite a lot of the book in floods of tears. There is no way you can not get caught up in what was happening within these pages.

Time is Running Out is unlike anything I’ve read before. As gruesome and horrific as some parts were to read, it got the adrenaline flowing through my body and it felt exhilarating yet traumatic at the same time. I don’t think this will be a book for everyone due to the subject matter but I have to applaud the author as he made me step out of my comfort zone and delivered an emotionally charged read that had my spine and nerves tingling with anticipation with each page I read. I have no clue how the author is going to top this book in the series as he has pulled out all the stops on this one of which it literally took my breath away.
