Book Description:
You can save hundreds of lives.
Or the one that matters most . . .
The atmosphere on board the first non-stop flight from London to Sydney is electric. Celebrities are rumoured to be among the passengers in business class, and the world is watching the landmark journey.
Flight attendant Mina is trying to focus on the passengers, instead of her troubled five-year-old daughter back at home – or the cataclysmic problems in her marriage.
But soon after the plane takes off, Mina receives a chilling anonymous note. Someone wants to make sure the plane never reaches its destination. They’re demanding her cooperation . . . and they know exactly how to get it.
It’s twenty hours to landing.
A lot can happen in twenty hours . . .
My Thoughts:
One thing you are always guaranteed with a novel by this author, is a grippingly great read!
To be honest I didn’t even read the description when I picked up this book. I mean it’s by Clare Mackintosh, what else do I need to know? I maybe should have though as this is one book that will keep you up well past your bedtime!
It’s hard to know how much to say about this story. I loved the sense of threat that runs throughout and you were never quite sure how it was all going to end. I loved the chapters that were on board the plane as you get to see so much more of what it is like to be part of the cabin crew. One of the definite downsides has to be hostage situations as couldn’t imagine anywhere worse than a plane as there aren’t many escape options. Mina was a great character who is put in a terrible position that will have you questioning as to whether you would do the same if you were in her shoes.
Along with what’s going on up in the air, there is plenty to keep you gripped with what’s happening on land. We mainly get to see things from Mina and her husband’s point of view along with passengers on the plane. All I can say is you need to get yourself a copy of this book and read it for yourself for the whole story as the less you know the better. You won’t be disappointed.
Hostage is a phenomenal read! It wouldn’t surprise me if it hasn’t already been snapped up for the big screen. Could so see this being a major movie with an A list cast of stars. My heart was racing throughout as the author had me on edge at all times. The ending and that last chapter, well it was the absolute icing on the top of a first rate read. Would give it a billion stars if I could. Absolutely brilliant!
My thanks to Sphere Books and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
