The End of Her by Shari Lapena @sharilapena @TransworldBooks

Book Description:

It starts with a shocking accusation . . .

Stephanie and Patrick are recently married, with new-born twins. While Stephanie struggles with the disorienting effects of sleep deprivation, there’s one thing she knows for certain – she has everything she ever wanted.

Then a woman from his past arrives and makes a horrifying allegation about his first wife. He always claimed her death was an accident – but she says it was murder.

He insists he’s innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. But is Patrick telling the truth? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?

How will it end?

My Thoughts:

I wholly have to agree with Linwood Barclay in his quote on the cover of the book that Shari Lapena is the queen of the one-sit read. I literally started and finished this book in the space of one afternoon as I was so engrossed!

The author is good at throwing doubt into her readers minds. My mind kept going into turmoil as I constantly changed my thoughts on certain characters and as to whether I believed them or not. Just as I thought I was right in my thinking, new events would leave me reeling and have me thinking the opposite. You won’t know who to believe and even then I was left shocked at how it all comes to a head.

Stephanie and Patrick are just your everyday couple who are coping with the pressures of normal life whilst also coping with four month old twins. The last thing they need is someone coming into their lives, turning their world upside down. It makes you wonder how well you really know the person you are married to.

The End of Her had me gripped, hanging off every page. It’s not often I ever want bad things to happen to characters but some just come along and have you disliking them so much that like some of the other characters, you are praying that they get their comeuppance in someway. The story takes lots of twists and turns and makes for a real mess with your head type of read. Another winner of a read by the author!
