Book Description:
THE TOP 10 BESTSELLER AND TIKTOK SENSATION, FROM THE AUTHOR OF IT ENDS WITH US
Are you ready to stay up all night? Rebecca meets Gone Girl in this shocking, unpredictable thriller with a twist that will leave you reeling . . .
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of the night their family was forever altered.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already-grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue loving her . . .
My Thoughts:
There has been so much hype surrounding this book that it was impossible not to want to read it for myself.
Lowen is very much down on her luck when she meets Jeremy, the husband of a high profile author. I have to admit I have always been very dubious when it comes to writers trying to recreate an other authors work and like Lowen had grave concerns how this partnership was going to work. The sum of money on offer is a very attractive one so I couldn’t blame her for accepting it.
When Lowen arrives at the Crawford’s home, a chill ran down my spine. This family has had a lot of sorrow to deal with and you get a sense of something not quite being right and I worried for what Lowen is getting herself into. When she comes across Verity’s autobiography, things get a whole lot darker and very, very twisted!
All I can say is the chapters that read from the autobiography, totally messed with my head. I was shocked, horrified and even felt scared! The suspense was literally killing me as to what more this book held within it’s pages and I was screaming in my head for Lowen to get out of the house as quickly as she can. This isn’t a book you can relax with as it had me so much on edge.
Verity is a disturbingly addictive read that grabbed hold of me and wouldn’t let go. I could feel my heart racing the further into the story I got and if it wasn’t for real life getting in the way, I would have happily sat and read it in one sitting as it was so page turningly good. I found it every bit as chilling as I did thrilling and I can not wait to see what other twisted delights the author has in store for us readers.
I have had this on my pile for ages, really need to bump it up after reading your review x
