Book Description:

The bestselling funny, uplifting novel from the Sunday Times bestseller and Queen of Feel-Good Fiction

Fay Merryweather runs her cake shop from her beautiful garden. She whips up airy sponges and scrumptious scones, while her customers enjoy the lovely blossoms and gorgeous blooms. Looking after the cake shop, the garden and her cantankerous mother means Fay is always busy but she accepts her responsibilities because if she doesn’t do all this, who will?

Then Danny Wilde walks into her life and makes Fay question every decision she’s ever made.

When a sudden tragedy strikes, Fay’s entire world is thrown off balance even further and she doesn’t know which way to turn. Can Fay find the strength to make a life-changing decision – even if it means giving up the thing she loves the most? Life, love and family are about to collide in The Cake Shop in the Garden.

If you love The Cake Shop in the Garden, don’t miss the sequel Christmas Cakes and Mistletoe Nights!

My Thoughts:

My heart went out to Fay when I met her in this story. In some respects she has what she wants with the home she wants to live in and the business she runs but on the other hand, she is at the constant beck and call of her bedridden mother that lives with her and her relationship with her partner Anthony, is just chugging along of which they hardly see anything of each other.

Whilst the house could do with some touch ups, it’s easy to see why Fay loves it so much with it being set on the waterway where all the canal boats go by. It’s not hard to get caught up in all her hopes and dreams. I got so frustrated though with her mother and her sister who are both so selfish and have Fay being run ragged with no real life of her own. Many a time I wanted to give Fay a good shake so she could see how they were taking advantage of her good nature.

There are some really great characters in this novel along with a few unsavoury ones. I loved Stan the old man who comes and has lunch every day at the house. Fay’s employee Lija made me laugh with her take on life. Of course the gorgeous Danny and his dog Diggery had my heart melting instantly on meeting them!

The Cake Shop in the Garden was such a lovely read that had me go through so many emotions. I was wrapped up in Fay’s life and what she was going through. I was mentally sending her positive thoughts throughout and willing that she would get her happy evert after. Of course to see whether she does or not, you will have to read it for yourself! A heart-warming page turner of a read!
