Book Description:
Eighteen year old Red and her friends are on a road trip in an RV, heading to the beach for Spring Break.
It’s a long drive but spirits are high. Until the RV breaks down in the middle of nowhere. And as the wheels are shot out, one by one, the friends realise that this is no accident.
There’s a sniper out there. He’s watching them and he knows exactly who they are. One of the group has a secret that the sniper is willing to kill for.
As a game of cat-and-mouse plays out, the group desperately tries to get help. Buried secrets are forced to light and tensions within the group reach deadly levels. Only one thing is for sure. Not everyone will survive the night . . .
My Thoughts:
Having read and enjoyed A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by the author, I was very much looking forward to reading her new standalone novel.
The story is a locked in mystery. Six friends are stuck in the middle of nowhere in an RV with no way of contacting the outside world. They can’t leave the security of the RV as it soon becomes apparent that there is a sniper outside, a sniper who will stop at nothing until they get what they want. As the story goes along, we get to know more about the group of friends who were on there way for a carefree trip. Nothing could have prepared them or the reader for what is about to happen.
As soon as we learn that one of the group is keeping a secret, well it sends the readers head into overdrive wondering who it could be and what secret could lead to current events. I was questioning everyone and swapping my mind throughout as to who it was. The story is split over eight hours which increases the urgency as the hours pass by. It makes for one hell of a read as tensions are running high within the group.
Five Survive is a tense page turner that picks up pace sending you hurtling at full speed towards the ending. I have to say I was blown away by the twists and turns the story took. Once they start, they don’t stop and I don’t think anything could have torn me away until I got to the end of the last page after I was so far into it. My heart is literally racing still as I felt like I was holding my breath for most of the novel as I watched events unfold. This may be classed as a YA thriller but hell, there were more thrills and chills than most adult thrillers. And don’t get me started on those killer twists! A fantastic crime thriller and one I will definitely be shouting about!
My thanks to the publisher for a readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
